A former colleague of mine posted recently on LinkedIn about how he responds to the question, ‘What is Executive Coaching?’
I used to get asked the same question and realized for most people who used to ask this question it was part of their mindset around fear… fear of looking weak, fear of needing or receiving support…, especially for C-Levels and Senior Leaders, who are leaders we coach.
Yet once we coach them around this fear, they wind up bringing us in to coach their entire team based on the extraordinary breakthroughs and results they experience.
I love that my former colleague added COMMUNICATION as to how Executive Coaches support our clients. Too many leaders have put themselves in extremely challenging positions because of their lack of emotional intelligence, and total disregard for understanding how each person on their team is unique.
Blanket statements, styles, and approaches have led people on their teams to report them to HR and/or quit. Communication is key emotional intelligence is one of the biggest reasons why people, especially talented people, stay on a team and excel.
Coaching is fantastic and strategic for any leader who is experiencing any frustration or overwhelm with their team or believes people aren’t good enough on their team or they ‘can’t find the right talent’, or looking to build a team and team culture where everyone thrives.
